It’s a sound you will never forget and pray you never hear again: metal against metal. July 4th, 2007 as my family headed to a holiday party a drunk driver pulled out in front of us in our hometown. Wet roads and timing prevented our car from stopping in time. CRUNCH.
Followed by the sounds of two scared little boys screaming and crying – then it hits you. We were just in a accident. What to do next?
In our case my husband and I jumped out of the car to check on the kids and once we realized they were okay the initial adrenaline started wearing off. My driving foot THROBBED and my pregnant belly ached. For us everything in the end worked out okay. My foot was broken, the unborn baby was fine, the car was drivable, and prayers of thanks were said.
Should it ever happen again I feel okay as we now have a Collision.kit in our glove box. I purchased this kit from Buttoned Up, Inc and love it so much I actually bought three more for gifts this holiday season. You’ll love the Buttoned Up website – it’s filled with amazing tips and advice on how to organize your daily life, your upcoming home move, your medical stack of papers, and more!
What is a Collision.kit?
The Collision.kit is the only kit that ensures you have everything you need to accurately capture the details surrounding any car accident. It helps prevent you from leaving the scene without completing vital information that most will neglect when shaken up.
- A disposable flash camera to visually document any damage
- Pre-formatted forms for collecting important information from all parties, including the police
- A pen in case you don’t have one handy
- A clipboard for something sturdy to write on
- An envelope for keeping registration and proof of insurance documents so you’ll always know where they are

So do you feel that you would be prepared should you get into a accident?

If I was in a accident today I would so not be prepared. I have nothing at all in my car. I have a phone and that is about it and I usually keep a charger in the car! But what good would that do if I had no service! So if I was in a accident I would probably be walking where ever I had to go… But lets just hope none of us EVER get in one!!!
SAFE DRIVING EVERYONE!!!!!

This would be perfect for me! I am accident prone
I don’t think I would be as prepared as I should be. My daughter keeps saying that we should have a piece of paper in the glove compartment that would indicate what she needs to record if it ever came to it. The disposable camera is a good addition even though a lot of people have the camera ability with their cellphone.
One thing that most people don’t think about is typically many drive with their cell phone in the door of the car or in a cup holder or somewhere out. If in accident it could fly through the car and break. Another thing is many cell phone cameras do not have a flash so if it is dusk or dark the pictures would not turn out. The Collision.kit is all in a pouch and typically in your glove box — and it has a flash!
I’m not putting cell phone cameras down at all as I LOVE mine but when we were in a accident my phone fell between the seat and the arm rest making it almost impossible to get at.

I think we would be prepared. In the day of cell phone cameras, I’d feel confident that I could document things.
Great advice I never thought about it to be honest if I was prepared for accident. Checking out the website now. Thanks Alaina for all your great articles and helpful mom tips.
I think as mothers we have so much on our minds already that we don’t want to think about the unexpected horrible things that COULD happen.

If you live in a snowy area it’s a good idea to have some of the things I mentioned in reply to Mary.
No, I’m not really prepared at all. I don’t have anything in my car, and if I do, I don’t know where it is. I should probably at least have blankets, flares, and jumper cables for an emergency, let alone an accident. Don’t think I have any of that.

I don’t think many of us do! I told my husband that I think we need to put a kit in the “hidden” storage area in our van. Things like bottled water, a few blankets, some self-stable protein bars, and extra diapers. We do have a emergency car kit already with flares, jumper cables and also our Collision.kit.
