Tonight as I laid in bed rereading a few stories in my Pearl Girls book I could see my feverish baby looking at me from the corner of my eye. His heart-stopping blue eyes watching my own as they moved back and forth on the page. Every once in a while I’d stop and look directly at him taking in each little feature. I’d smile. He’d burrow his overly warm head into my neck. Making a tired mom emotional.

I couldn’t help but have a few tears find their way into my eyes. The combination of sleep deprivation, his warmth against me (knowing I can’t do anything but comfort him) and the heartfelt stories I was reading was a intoxicating mixture. It’s cocktail effect got me thinking of what it means to be a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter – a woman. Strong, independent – yet ever leaning on one true pillar of strength.

I’m not one to turn down a book – especially one with a message like this one promised to deliver. So, I gladly accepted when I was offered the chance to review ‘Pearl Girls: encountering grit, experiencing grace’. I have to say that this is a book I’d definitely would have downloaded, but having the actual book with it’s beautiful cover and crisp pages is exactly what I needed.

While the pages aren’t so crisp now and the binding has that broken in feel the stories are still the same each time I read them. Yet, every time I read a Pearl Girl story it touches me in a different way - soul deep.

“Every Pearl Girl story holds a message of hope and grace. God isn’t finished with us yet!”

I really couldn’t have said it any better. No matter what each woman went through in the end – no matter how long that road was they saw how God was shaping them, molding them, crafting them to be stronger. It really got me thinking of a number of things in my own life that perhaps I’m going through in order to share with other. Let others know that there is hope.

pearlgirlscoverI know how much I was touched with my own witness to the power of prayer and how others where when I shared it with them. One story in particular really touched me in a weird way. I’ve been struggling with trying to figure out where I was to go in my life. Never once asking Him what His will for me was. That day I had a few moments and picked up Pearl Girls just flipping through the pages. I felt drawn to stop at page 164 the story titled “Thy Will Be Done”. Yikes! Talk about neon flashing signs.

I wouldn’t spoil the story for you, but let’s just say it reminded me that I don’t have to worry about hacking my way through this forest. I have someone that can clear the way for me – if I’ll just listen and lean on him for guidance.

Some More Pearl Girl Food For Thought

100% of the book’s royalties go toward building wells in Uganda for school children and to fund a safe house in Chicago for women and children who are fleeing from domestic abuse. To learn more about these two organizations and to share your own Pearl Girl story visit www.PearlGirls.info.
