How many times in a week do you step on your scale? Every morning, once a week, or anytime you walk past it? I really dislike our scale. Okay, I loathe our scale. Just when I start feeling great I’ll step on it and I’ll see those three numbers and I want to cry.

My great feeling fading away as the numbers appear. All my efforts that day or even that week felt like they were for nothing. Absolutely nothing! A month or two ago I decided to put the scale away. I wasn’t going to worry myself with numbers. All I needed to pay attention to was how I felt. My clothes aren’t as snug. I don’t have to lay down and suck it in to zip my pants.

This is all I need to know. That I’m feeling better. I’m feeling great.

I actually found something that is helping. A pedometer. What is that you may ask?

A pedometer or step counter is a device, in modern times usually portable and electronic or electromechanical, that counts each step a person takes by detecting the motion of the person’s hips.Wikipedia

I’m using the Personal Trainer Walking for the Nintendo DS. It’s basically a pedometer that I hook to my pants and wear all day. Then before I go to bed or even the next morning I sync it with my DS and find out how many steps I took. These numbers for me are SO much easier to handle then the scale. If I want a higher number then I can just jog in place.

So put your scale away and look for something that you can use to see instant results. If you are like me this will help you SO much more than seeing your weight going up and down a pound or two all day.

Today has been an awesome day. I was really bummed out yesterday after stepping on the scale. I hadn’t had it out in a while. I also haven’t been working out consistently until last week. Today though seeing those numbers on the pedometer creeping higher and higher made me feel amazing and so proud of myself. When they went over 6,000 steps before noon I couldn’t help but smile.

So try hiding your scale – or better yet have your spouse hide it! Track your success by how you feel. Count your water bottles or use a tool to track your steps. Use that as a measure of accomplishment. I know the scale will follow!
