Many of you know how much I love cloth products. From cloth diapers, unpaper towels, and yes even cloth feminine pads. They are all wonderful and help us to save money and reduce waste on this planet. I wanted to share with you a recent press release from one of the organizations on the front lines helping to make affordable diapering a reality for families around the world.

One thing that scares many away from cloth diapering their children is the initial “sticker shock”. They are blind to the fact that over the course of one child it will save them hundreds. Add one or two more children to the mix and you have now saved thousands over their non-potty trained years. Not to mention the benefits to the earth and the cute diapers on their behinds!

As Miracle Diapers has grown so has the number of families they assist. In 2009, they helped over 450 babies directly, more than 100 babies through sponsorship and local distribution, and assisted other charities with the same mission as well!

To better serve those families Miracle Diapers reaccessed it’s structure and practices. They have:

  • New leadership with Roxanna Jolly—CEO and Lisa Johnston—Operations Manager and Board Chair
  • Relocated their headquarters to Katy, Texas
  • Restructured how they process and accept applications
  • Opened a retail store for fundraising
  • Founded a new membership program
  • Welcomed several new board members from the cloth diapering industry

In it’s fifth year Miracle Diapers wants to continue moving forward and has decided to take on a new name that better describes the organization and it’s mission.

Miracle Diapers is now The Cloth Diaper Foundation

“We felt that a more appropriate name would help the community have a better understanding of who we are, as we have often been mistaken for a diaper manufacturer. Our desire to move forward and build a legacy of support for the cloth diapering community will be reflected in our new name: The Cloth Diaper Foundation.”

-Roxanna Jolly, CEO, The Cloth Diaper Foundation

Monetary donations fell last year do to the economy. Which means there are more families out there for The Cloth Diaper Foundation to help! While diaper donations are always appreciated, we must be able to financially support organizational growth.

There are many ways that you can help The Cloth Diaper Foundation. There are even companies pledging matching donations- so when you buy something for your little one and item of equal value is being donated to The Cloth Diaper Foundation.

Let’s make this happen together and spread the CD love. Visit http://clothdiaperfoundation.org today to find out how you can help!

  3. Disposable nappies are a scourge, a source of serious pollution. I remember a hippie friend of mine who had dug a nappy pit behind her mountain cabin that she eventually covered over and planted a tree on top of when her son was potty trained. That was the best way she could come up with to dispose of them and I must say that the tree she planted has grown really well, really fast! The same goes for the long drop toilet. Once it reaches a certain level it gets covered and a tree planted on top…no fruit trees, I promise!

I am expecting my second child in June my first is eight years old so it has been a while and a lot has changed in these years I have friends and family with little ones and I know there are so many products on the market designed to make life easier ” I never had a wipee warmer or diaper genie with my first ” but I am totally considering a lot of these products are they worth it and why are there any items you couldn’t live without and why I appreciate any input from the advanced to the old fashioned I’m having a boy if that makes a difference.

I think that it shouldn’t be a problem…covers can be super cheap! You can get a 3 pack of pull- on Gerber covers at WalMart for less than $5….I wouldn’t have a problem getting my own covers if I were an applicant…the diapers are the majority of the expense in my opinion…

    • Yes diapers can be expensive. We found that quality prefold diapers matched with quality covers from Mother Ease or other diaper companies ended up costing around $100 for three years worth of diapers. Many spend that much on disposable diapers in a matter of two months it’s the upfront cost that scares most away (in combination of the thought of washing).
