Back in February my husband’s back went pop and he’s been off of work since. March 13th he had surgery on his back to fuse his 4th and 5th lumbar vertibre together; complete with rods, screws, and transplant of some hip bone onto his spine.

When this first happened, my friend and mentor, Kelly McCausey asked the WAHM community to help us pay some of our bills. Seriously, I could not believe the response that it received. I still do not think that the words “Thank you” are enough but it’s the only words that the English dictionary have!

I am forever grateful for the outpouring of support, prayer, and financial help to our family in a dark time. It just goes to show that even those that have never meet before can make differences in your life that you can not imagine.

Now, Marty is walking and actually lost almost 15 lbs. since his surgery. He still has a ways to go and mentally I don’t know if he’ll ever get over the fact that his back “hurts”. At least his leg isn’t giving out on him anymore. At the end of May he has another doctor’s appointment and I hope that he’ll be released back to work. Mentally I think he needs to hear it from the doctor that it’s time to get back into the grind of things. Then of course we’ll be able to get back into our grind here at the house.

Now, I’m seeing more power of the internet in a different kind of support. My Lifetime Challenge isn’t just about loosing weight. If that was the only issue then it would be simple and it wouldn’t be a challenge of a lifetime. It’s about overcoming those mental blocks that one day seem so little and the next are my Mt. Everest.

One day food can be nothing to me, the next I can’t step away from the refrigerator. One day I’m feeling happy and ready to conquer all my daily challenges and the next I can’t even get up off the chair. One day my husband is behind me 110% the next I feel like he’s attacking everything I do (although I know in my heart that he IS still behind me).

I’m glad for the internet. Where else can you say “I’m going to loose a person in a year”, well The Biggest Loser of course you’ll have millions cheering your on- but I’m not on t.v. I’m in real life. I know that I can do it — and with my husband and the hundreds of supports I have gained over the past few weeks through this blog and through Twitter will make sure that my before picture is bigger then my after.

So that is the real power of the internet- it’s not about hacking and stealing identities – it’s about connections and supporting those that are going through similar up’s and down’s that you are. It’s about family and knowing that even if your own family is attacking your goals and dreams- you still have your internet family that cheer you on and keep you accountable for your actions and each piece of food that made it passed the lips.

If you want some inspiring stories to pump you up and help you realize that anyone can reach their weight and fitness goals I urge you to head on over to The 30-Day Challenge and read the goals and recaps of the challengers and keep up with them as they tackle their road blocks and work up a sweat with EA Sports Active.
