Tips For Reducing Stress For Work At Home Moms

When you began your work at home business, you may have had visions of grandeur. You envisioned yourself building and running this amazing online or direct sales business, making lots of money right away, and living the life you’ve always dreamed of. Then you woke up.

Your baby is screaming and needs lots of attention, your husband thinks the time you spend online is spent chit chatting with other women who “work from home”, your pre-teen needs to be driven here, there and everywhere and your mom calls you 10 times a day because she can. You are stressed out, your business is going nowhere and you barely have time to brush your teeth or comb your hair. Does this sound familiar? If so, I have some tips to help you reduce your stress and free up more time so you can build your business and take care of your family the way you so desire.

First of all, if you can, get some help from others who can take your children for awhile or simply pick them up when needed. Often, a teenage neighbor may be willing to come over and occupy your youngsters for a couple of hours a day after school so you can focus on your business before your hubby comes home from work demanding dinner. Your mom, you know, the one that calls you ten times a day, ask her if she would be willing to pick the kids up and take them to the park or community center for a few hours, 2 or 3 times a week. Then spend that time focused on your building your business.

Sometimes we get so stressed out because we never take time for ourselves. Schedule time for yourself and do something relaxing at least once a week. Exercising or going for walks burns off a lot of stress as well. Have your children help out around the house with chores they are able to do, like vacuuming, dusting and dishes. You’ll be amazed at how much time this alone will save you.

Get local teens to help out with lawn mowing, snow shoveling or whatever is needed for some pocket cash. Your church youth group would be a good source for this because they are often looking for ways to raise money for mission trips and other teen events.

  1. I’m not a work-at-home mom, but I certainly need help finding balance. I work full-time, have 2 kids & solo-parent 50% of the year.

Thanks for reading and commenting! Finding balance is key to your happiness and to the happiness of the entire family! Usually it starts with listing your priorities then scheduling them into your day so that things get the attention that they deserve. Also, another key point is to carve out some time for you to just relax or do what you enjoy! :)

I’m a sit at home mom, but some of that sounds familiar. For not working, there never seems to be enough time in the day! I need guidance, but I’m not sure for what yet.

Sit at home??? You are much more than a “sitting” mom. You should be looking at Mentally Inked almost as a business. So in a way I’d say you are a work at home mom – you just don’t realize it yet!! Kim, you should check out Aurelia’s Journey To Joy book – lots of great tips there. Also, hint hint – we’ll be giving away a awesome mini ebook with some tips on balancing life, learning to say no, and taking time for yourself. Sign up for our newsletter – you don’t want to miss that! I’m sure Aurelia will be stopping by here soon with some great advice on where you can start so you know what you need help in.

Actually – Alaina hit the nail on the head. Kim – I bet you do less sitting than many moms that Work outside of the home! I agree with Alaina – you would really benefit from the Journey to Joy ebook… I think she has a link to it up there towards the bottom of my post.

Perhaps just starting with a simple schedule for yourself would help. This would help you to carve out time for yourself, kids, chores, errands..etc and you will see just how busy, productive and needed you are! I tell ya’ it is truly eye-opening! So, grab the ebook, sign up for Alaina’s newsletter, my newsletter and lets get cracking on getting you the guidance you need :)

So true Aurelia! :) I remember those days when the kids were small. I was SO exhausted so much of the time. I also remember thinking I just wanted to get away for a while but I never did. Looking back, I wish I would have done more to take care of myself because I think I would have been a better mom. Now, as a mom of two teens, I have discovered the value of being good to myself. It is not a selfish thing at all like I used to believe. In fact, it has helped me be more patient and emotionally stable for my kids and husband.

Nikki, Thanks for stopping by! Can’t wait to hear Aurelia’s comments but I have something to say. Patience. Emotionally Stable. Two things I am often lacking in my world of 3 boys 6 and under. I am trying harder to make sure I have ME time so that when I have US time it’s better and full of fond memories and no stress!

That is Great Nikki. As I pointed out below.. your teens will grow up to take time out for themselves because of this as well. I think I was/am a better mom because I give to myself on a regular basis and this allows me more “umph” to give to my family.

A lot of moms are struggling with the idea of taking time for themselves, and just let life take over until they’re overwhelmed, helpless and depressed.

Yes, it’s all about balancing, and finding a great support system. But most importantly, it’s all about choices. Once you’ve made the choice to start taking care of yourself and making it a priority, everything else will fall into place.

Very good point Cherrie and do you want to know another secret benefit of taking “me time”?. Your children will adapt to it and will grow up to do the same thing. My oldest daughter is 22 and has an extremely active 18month old and she takes Me Time whenever possible. This makes me so proud. She tells me that she remembers me taking Date Nights, and Me time when she was a child and she can totally see how its a sanity saver for all moms!

Thanks Aurelia for sharing these great tips on reducing stress for the work-at-home moms. I work full-time, but I also work my business when I get home. So I can use these stress reducing tips. I am always trying to balance what time I have left. This is hard because when I get home, there the duties are waiting on me. I am working on taking some time for me. I try and be creative with it. Now I am squeezing some time in

  11. Some people have a completely wrong look on WAHMs. It is not all cupcakes and roses! It is work. I have worked full time at home for years now and I have had to hire babysitters, daycare, and put my kids into full-day prek. It is not possible to be a full-time WAHM and a SAHM, if anyone knows a way, I would love to know!
